MCF ATHLETE: TRISCIA NICHOLSON

You cant judge a book by its cover!

I met Trish on a bus on a field trip that she was on with her grand daughter who is the same age as my daughter. We sat next to eachother on the bus and talked the whole way to the zoo and back. Of course we talked a little about CrossFit in the "What do you do for a living?" conversation and she said that maybe she'd come try it. I am so glad she did! I remember her saying how nervous she was and I reassured her that we started everyone really easy.

I had no idea about the bad ass that lived with-in her because her exterior did not match who she was on the inside. 2 yrs ago, she looked like your typical middle aged grandma. To watch her progress and thrive has been amazing. She now looks like the fit, lean, mean, WOD killing machine that she is!

She faced her fears, found out that CrossFit isn't really that scary at all. She also learned how to EAT HEALTHY (this is HUGE!) and look at her now!

These days she inspires ME. I look to her as an example of a hard worker and someone with great self discipline and consistency at the box.

Great job, Trish! Keep it up!

Tricias Q&A:

•When did you start doing CrossFit?

October 2016

•Favorite WOD?

Any WOD with Deadlifts or Rowing is my Jam!

•Least Favorite WOD?

Any WOD that has Mary Kathrine Lunges.... So painful for me.

•What were your thoughts after your 1st CrossFit workout?

I started with the 4 week Foundations Course. I was nervous going to my first class thinking what the heck am I doing.... My first WOD was just a benchmark workout that I would complete again at the end of the course to see if I could beat my score. That first WOD kicked my butt but I was so excited to go back. I also met a very cool couple that had started a few weeks before me that made me feel right at home.

•What were your goals when joining CrossFit?

My goal when I first started CrossFit was to lose the weight that I gained after a tailbone injury and to regain strength and mobility. It's so much more than that now, now I want to be strong and defined.

•Have you achieved any of those goals?

Oh yeah, over the last year I have dropped over 36 lbs and I am in the best shape of my life. My engine feels strong and I have no major mobility issues.  My body composition has completely changed. CrossFit is a great way to overcome injuries and regain your physical abilities.

•Has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym?

CrossFit has changed so many things in my life like the way I viewed my body. Now I am proud of my body, I feel strong like there's nothing I can't handle. I had an unhealthy relationship with food, now I eat healthy to fuel my body and I feel so much better. I approach everyday challenges like we approach a hard WOD, it may hurt for a few minutes but I will finish, it will end, and it always turns out better than I thought it was going to.

•What are some of your best WOD times/ achievements inside the gym?

I finished Diane in 3:47 and an 85lb Clean during the CrossFit Open, I just PR'd my rope climb and ran my best mile in 9:57 beating my time by 25 sec. I also am Deadlifting 175lb.

•Do you have any special memories/ achievements during your time here?

The energy at the Box is incredible, everyone is so encouraging so it makes it fun and exciting to be there. I competed in the Lurong Challenge and the Masters League Open which was a challenge for me but so fun and I finished!

•IMUA means to move forward. Tell us about a time that our battle cry IMUA has been applicable in your fitness life?

This year I competed in the CrossFit Open which was very intimidating for me and well outside my comfort zone. The thought of not knowing what the WODs would be, questioning my abilities, the thought of being judged and watched.. The anxiety felt overwhelming. There were times that I had to push through all of it and it was really challenging. The encouragement from the coaches, judges and fellow CrossFitters is really what kept me going.

•What advice would you give to a newbie just joining McMinnville CrossFit?

You will eventually crave the pain, it's addicting. This is so much more than fitness, if you want to change your life keep coming back! It doesn’t get easier you just get stronger.
